Story of Happi Hands
During her time as an independent therapist, Jane volunteered at The Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital in London. She began working in a specialist day care centre for elderly people suffering from depression, dementia and other mental health problems.
Over subsequent years, listening to friends and colleagues worrying about parents in care homes and requiring more stimuli, Jane looked into specialising in massage therapy as a regular treatment for care home residents. As a result, Tranquil Touch massage technique was developed.
Beginning in Cheshire, the treatments were so well received and proved such an overwhelming success, Happi Hands was created with the intention of providing a greater number of people with massage and manicure treatments.
The name of the company was derived from a comment by a 92 year old lady who said:
"Your massage and manicure make me and my hands very happy".
During her time providing treatments on a regular basis to a variety of care homes, Jane came to realise the multitude of ways in which touch can be of tremendous benefit to the elderly and the impact it has on many levels; emotionally, psychologically and physically.
